Joint pain is a common problem, the cause of which is most often arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an inflammatory disease affecting mostly small joints – fingers, wrists, elbows, and ankles. The main causes of this affliction are not fully understood, but it is believed that genetic, hormonal, and climatic factors play an important role in its occurrence. There is no specific age at which rheumatoid arthritis can appear, but it most often occurs between the ages of 35 and 55.

Nature, of course, gives us many options for treating this problem, and essential oils are an indispensable assistant.

Organic ingredients of essential oils to help with joint pain

The main organic compounds in the composition of essential oils that help with inflammatory diseases of the joints are: ά and β- Pinene, β-Myrcene, ά-Bisabolol, Chamazulene, Linalool. They soothe inflammation, remove swelling, pain, and stiffness. These compounds are found in the oils of Juniper berry, Scotch Pine, Thymus Serpyllum, Chamomile (Matricaria Chamomilla), and Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia).

How to use them?

The easiest and most effective way to apply essential oils for joint pain is by making a compress. The general rule is that when there is redness, swelling and inflammation, that is, when the process is in an active phase, the compress should be cold. When there is pain and stiffness, then a warm compress is used.

Home therapeutic ritual with essential oils

We use cold or warm (according to individual tolerance) water, in which we place a pre-made mixture of the specified essential oils dissolved in sea salt. The amount of water, sea salt, and essential oils depends on the area you will be applying the compresses to. As a general rule, 3 to 4 tablespoons of sea salt mixed with the essential oils, are added to 1 liter of water.

  • Put the salt in a bowl, add 7, 8 drops of one of the oils or a mixture of them on it, and mix well so that each crystal absorbs the oil.
  • Pour the salt into the water. Mix well and immediately put a layer of gauze in the liquid.
  • Place the well-wrung gauze on the affected area. When applying a warm compress, you can enhance the thermal effect by placing nylon and covering it with a towel, scarf, or other warm fabric.
  • Leave the compress for about 10-15-20 minutes. Here the rule of time is – until the cold compress warms up and the warm compress cools down.

Another effective way to relieve rheumatoid arthritis is to rub in a mixture of essential and base oils. Such are the face and body oils <<Spa Maat>>.

After removing the compress, to enhance the therapeutic effect, smear the affected surface with one of the following face and body oils: Stimulus, Energy, Maat for dry skin.

Stimul oil for face and body

It is suitable when the inflammation is in its acute phase – there is swelling and it is red. To enhance the healing effect, add 2.3 drops of Juniper essential oil to the bottle of Stimul oil. Rub the oil with massaging movements and let it work. You can repeat the procedure several times during the day.

Energy and Maat for dry skin face oils

When the inflammation is in its acute phase, there is pain and stiffness, then you can use Energy or Maat for dry skin oils. To enhance the healing effect, you can add to “Energy” – 2-3 drops of Thyme or Lavender essential oil, and to “Maat for dry skin” – 2-3 drops of Chamomile or Lavender essential oil.
