Often, the big cosmetic companies convince us that aging is scary and in their advertising messages emphasize the need to use many anti-aging cosmetic products for mature skin that potentially contain synthetic ingredients.
Fortunately, more and more people realize that the natural composition of cosmetics, meeting the needs of the skin according to its type and condition, is the most important when choosing cosmetic care for mature skin. As well as the fact that aging is a natural inevitable process and with the right natural cosmetics and healthy habits one can feel healthy and beautiful at any age.
Aging of the skin is the result of various factors: age and environmental factors, which are caused by unhealthy habits, environment, and lifestyle. In short, we can define two forms of aging: natural aging and premature aging.
The natural aging process
Natural aging involves a change in cells and tissues, slowing down the production of collagen. The number of pigment-containing cells in our body (also known as melanocytes) decreases, making the skin appear more transparent.
In addition, the epidermal layer becomes thinner over time, blood vessels become more fragile, and sebaceous glands produce less oil as we age.
It’s a process we can’t stop, but there are ways we can take care of ourselves so that our skin ages at a slower pace.
What is premature aging?
Premature aging is caused by factors that disrupt the natural aging process. This means that the skin can look aged too soon, which would drastically change the way you will look in 10-20 years.
More often than not, these signs of premature aging are from factors we can prevent. Two of the most important factors for this process are unprotected exposure to the sun and abuse of cigarettes, alcohol, and other harmful substances.
Smoking is not only harmful to the lungs, but tobacco smoke can also prematurely age the skin. Nicotine narrows the blood vessels, which makes it difficult for oxygen and nutrients to pass through, while the production of collagen and elastin is greatly impaired. On the other hand, smoking, alcohol, and toxic substances increase free radicals in the body. As a result, deep wrinkles can appear quickly. Fortunately, with lifestyle changes, these factors responsible for premature aging can be prevented!
When it comes to sun exposure, ultraviolet (UVA and UVB) rays cause so-called photodamage or photoaging. UVA penetrates all layers of the skin, risking damage to collagen and elastin fibers, epidermal cells, and capillaries. UVB rays are particularly intense and can cause photoaging and the formation of precancerous cells (actinic keratoses) on the epidermis. That’s why sun protection with a sunscreen that matches your skin’s phototype is especially important, even in cloudy weather.
Signs and symptoms of skin aging
Hyperpigmentation
As the skin ages, we can develop so-called “age spots” or “sun spots” on the face, hands, forearms, and chest. They affect 90% of fair-skinned people over 50. Spots appear as a result of excessive production of melanin, which is distributed unevenly on the skin.
Dryness and tightness of the skin
Over time, the skin experiences greater difficulty in retaining moisture. The reasons are that it becomes thinner and the sebaceous glands secrete less sebum. When its secretion is insufficient and the main protective barrier of the skin – the hydro-lipid mantle does not function well, the epidermis is not sufficiently nourished and protected, and a prerequisite is created for excessive dehydration of the skin and premature aging.
Wrinkles and loose skin
They are caused by the reduced production of collagen in the skin with advancing age and the breakdown of elastin fibers. As collagen and elastin play a particularly crucial role in our skin’s elasticity, this can lead to sagging and loose skin.
How to support mature skin
Accepting the natural process of aging and recognizing the needs of the skin as it changes are key factors in feeling healthy and beautiful at any age.
Hydration
Since your skin naturally loses moisture over time, make sure you hydrate it deeply. Choose beauty products that will retain moisture longer, keeping your skin hydrated. This can help fill in fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck.

Antioxidant care
Antioxidants help maintain healthy, protected, and youthful skin. They have an anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effect and we can get them with a balanced diet, as well as through natural active ingredients in cosmetics.

Sun care
Sun damage is among the biggest causes of premature aging, but sunscreen can help minimize sun damage, keeping your skin looking healthier in the long run.
Not all sunscreens are the same, and they don’t always work as effectively as they should. This is especially true for sensitive and mature skin. To make sure your sunscreen will actually protect your skin, make sure it doesn’t contain harmful synthetic ingredients.
For sun protection in the city, you can use Zdravetz essential oil 10% in Jojoba oil and Zdravetz fluid, which have a natural UV factor. With stronger exposure to the sun, if your skin is not prone to pigmentation or is too light, it is necessary to apply more often for better protection.
Lightening of pigment spots
By applying a lightening homemade mask that suits you and natural beauty products for daily care, you can lighten unwanted pigmentation, even out the complexion, and refresh and rejuvenate the skin.

A conscious approach to skin aging
With the cult of beauty comes the anti-aging trend. In their pursuit of eternal youth, some women even overdo it with botox, fillers, and surgical interventions.
In recent years, however, more and more people have consciously accepted the natural changes and imperfections of the skin as a result of age. It reinforces the understanding that whether we are 25 or 75, we can look and feel good for our age. Skin care is not about stopping the aging process, but doing it with an understanding of what our skin needs. And that is – hydration, nourishment, and protection. This is where the help of natural organic cosmetics comes in, which can meet these needs.
